SHARE THE STOKE:

Old Guys Rule
Longboards and BZ Surf Expression Session

The Old Guys Rule Longboards and BZ Surf Expression Session is open to Pro and amateur surfers of all ages.

The judging format will be drop knee turns, longest wave ridden, longest nose ride and how many people as a team on one wave and general classic style. "Sharing the stoke"and team Aloha Spirit. Prizes and trophies will be awarded in all of the first place age divisions.

The Aloha Beach Festival’s surfing event, is about Sharing the Stoke of Surfing and is open to surfers of all ages, from menehunes to old guys and (well, gals never get old!)

The event will run from 10 to 3 – five hours of a fresh and fun approach to a surfing “contest”. Each hour we’ll have a different theme:

10 am – Amateur Hour – This session is for the young and young at heart. Special award for the surfer obviously having the most fun!

11 am – Family Time – and extended uncles, cousins, aunties, mentors, etc. Sharing waves = lotsa points!

Noon – Foamies Only – Body boards, BZ boards, bellie boards, etc. Extra points to homies shredding on their foamies!

1 pm – Hot Shots, Retro Style – Judges will be looking for today’s talented surfers trading in their tricks for old school maneuvers.

2 pm – Old Guys Rule Expression Session – need we say more?

Each hour will be “judged” by a panel of soberminded, self-effacing, highly opinionated, and certainly surf-saturated individuals (if we can find more than one person to help out) and criteria will include:

Wave Riding (not wanking) - drop knee turns, casual arches, cross over steps, and other endangered species.

Longest wave ridden – or longest time simply standing on your board if there aren’t any waves!

Longest Nose Ride – of course, a bodyboarder is often hanging ten (fingers!) so this will be a very competitive category!

Paddle to the Pier Persons of the Year – Who made it despite the greatest odds against them! No paddleboards – no longboards.

Most People on a Wave – Just think, while happily snaking your friends, you WANT people to take off in front of you!

The decisions of the judges will be final – unless they completely blow it. In that case, we’ll go to mob rule and vote.

This event is managed by the Groundswell Society
